Stop Overthinking Business: Take the Next Step

Sometimes the hardest part of running a business is deciding what to do next. You’ve done the research and asked for advice, but you’re still going back and forth. What if it doesn’t work? What if there’s a better option?

Those are fair questions. But they can also keep you sitting on a good idea for months.

You don’t have to figure out the whole thing today. If you’ve been thinking about offering a new service, talk to a few customers. If a proposal is ready, send it. A small step can give you something that more thinking can’t: a response from someone who might actually do business with you.

Of course, hiring your first employee or making a major investment deserves more time than trying a new marketing idea. Consider what’s at stake and how easily you could change course. Give the decision the attention it needs.

There will always be something you can’t predict. That’s part of business. Make a reasonable plan, take a step you can manage and learn as you go.

What have you been putting off? Pick one thing you can move forward this week—even if it’s just making the call.
